With International Family Day being celebrated worldwide today, 15 May 2026, our Bevonkte ATKV Youth Branch launched a meaningful initiative to highlight the value of family, unity and togetherness among learners.
As part of the celebrations, the Youth Branch shared interesting and meaningful idioms with learners during assembly throughout the week. These idioms focused on themes such as family, support, loyalty and the importance of standing together through every challenge and success. Through this creative initiative, language was promoted in a fun and interactive way while valuable life lessons were also shared with learners.
The aim of the project was not only to enrich and promote the Afrikaans language, but also to remind young people of the important role that family and community play in every person’s life. Each idiom carried a deeper message - that people are stronger when they support, respect and work together.
At Hoërskool Ben Viljoen, these values are lived out every day. We firmly believe that family is not always determined by blood, but also by the people who grow alongside you, encourage you and inspire you to become the best version of yourself. Teachers, staff, parents and learners together form a close-knit community where every individual feels welcomed and becomes part of the bigger Ben Viljoen family.
Today’s celebrations once again confirmed that the pride of a true Daller Heart is deeply rooted in values of care, support and unity. It is this sense of belonging that makes us so special - a place where learners not only develop academically, but also grow emotionally and socially within a safe and supportive environment.
We are especially proud that many alumni now have children who are part of the Hoërskool Ben Viljoen family themselves. This generational connection highlights the unique character of our school as a true generational school, where traditions, values and pride are passed on from one generation to the next.
International Family Day, therefore, not only celebrates the importance of families but also the special bond shared by everyone who forms part of the Ben Viljoen community. It once again proved that family can take many forms - and at Hoërskool Ben Viljoen, every learner, parent and staff member is part of one big extended family.
