With great excitement, the annual poetry reading tradition took place in the Afrikaans Grade 8 Home Language classes. Our Grade 8s were given the opportunity to showcase their recitation skills by reciting different poems with confidence and enthusiasm for the class.
This special tradition has become a highlight in the Afrikaans classes over the years, as it not only develops language skills but also encourages learners to express their creativity and personality. This year was no exception. The classes were filled with energy, humour, and creative expressions as the learners delivered their recitations.
What made this year's recitations even more special was the fact that several of the poems were written by the learners themselves. These original creations showed how much talent and imagination lie within our Grade 8s. Some poems told humorous stories that made the class laugh out loud, while others depicted deep emotions and personal experiences. It was clear that each learner was proud of their work and appreciated the opportunity to share it with their peers.
The recitals also gave many learners the chance to step out of their comfort zones and build confidence in front of an audience. Through voice projection, facial expressions, and dramatic interpretation, the learners brought the poems to life and proved that Afrikaans is not only a subject, but also a language in which one can think creatively, dream, and create.
