Consumer Studies offers learners a valuable opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge that prepare them for the challenges of the modern world. This subject not only focuses on the responsible role of the consumer but also equips learners with skills that they can apply in their personal and professional lives.
One of the important sections within the Consumer Studies syllabus is Entrepreneurship. Through this section, learners learn how to think creatively, solve problems and spot opportunities where they can utilise their talents and skills. This gives them a better understanding of how small-scale businesses function and how products can be successfully developed, marketed and sold.
The practical component of the subject plays a major role in this learning process. During practical classes, learners get the opportunity to bake different products themselves and thus gain valuable experience. This practical exposure helps them to build self-confidence and further develop their creativity. It also prepares them for possible future entrepreneurial opportunities should they decide to start their own business one day.
This past week, our Grade 10 to Grade 12 Consumer Studies learners showcased their ingenuity and talent during their practical classes. The learners mastered and baked various products with great enthusiasm and dedication. Each product not only reflected the learners' hard work, but also their ability to plan, work meticulously and be creative.
