From 2 to 4 October 2026, Hoërskool Ben Viljoen’s two freshwater bank angling teams, the Ben Vissers (boys) and the Dallers (girls), proudly participated in the prestigious Champof Champs Freshwater Bank Angling Competition held at Bloemhof Dam.
The competition provided our anglers with the opportunity to showcase their skills, perseverance and teamwork against strong competitors. Ben Vissers finished with a commendable 13th place in the overall team rankings, while our Dallers achieved an impressive 7th place. These results reflect the hard work, dedication and passion with which each angler pursues the sport.
What makes this achievement even more special is that this marks the third consecutive year that Hoërskool Ben Viljoen’s angling teams have participated in this prestigious competition. It is clear evidence of the continued growth and development of freshwater bank angling at our school, as well as the enthusiasm with which our learners embrace the sport.
No team achievement is possible without the support of dedicated sponsors, team managers and organisers. We would therefore like to express our sincere gratitude to Laeveld Agrochem, Mr Hendrik du Plessis and Dr Carel Hancke for their generous contributions and support.
A special word of appreciation goes to Mr Pieter Dreyer, team manager of the boys’ team, and Mr Sean Berry, team manager of the girls’ team, for their guidance and support. We also thank our team captain, Dr Carel Hancke, as well as our angling organisers, Mr Sarel Snyman and Mr Tiaan Smit, for their invaluable contributions to the success and continued development of angling at Hoërskool Ben Viljoen.
