KJ Briel, one of our current Grade 11 learners, showcased his talent in an impressive way this year by participating in both the Allegretto Theatre Festival Monofees/Digiteater and Aardklop PronkDigitaal with the compelling production My Skaduwee, written by Inamari.
The production tells the story of Christo, a teenage boy who begins sharing his story during a session in a psychologist’s office. He speaks of a shadow that talks to him - something that initially seems like nothing more than imagination. As the story unfolds, the shadow becomes increasingly intense and personal. It soon becomes clear that the shadow represents the voice of judgment and self-doubt that begins to dominate Christo’s thoughts. In his struggle against this inner voice, he must ultimately fight to affirm his own worth, identity, and self-acceptance.
KJ’s participation was recognised with outstanding achievements. At the Allegretto Theatre Festival, he received a Bronze Accolade for Acting, while both the Directing and Cinematography were also honoured with Bronze Accolades. The production itself was further recognised with a Bronze Accolade, highlighting the high standard and quality of the script.
His success continued at Aardklop PronkDigitaal, where My Skaduwee also earned a Bronze Accolade.
These achievements are a testament to KJ’s passion, dedication, and creative ability as a young actor. His willingness to portray challenging themes with conviction, together with his continued growth in the performing arts, is truly impressive. We are incredibly proud of KJ’s accomplishments and look forward to what the future holds.
