The start of an exciting new tradition occurred at our hostels last night when the girls from Huis Cherié girls’ hostel and the boys from Boomhuis boys’ hostel initiated a flag “borrowing” tradition.
The tradition involves the two hostels taking turns taking down each other’s flags and “borrowing” them for a while – all in good spirits and with a great deal of camaraderie. This is not only a fun challenge, but also a way to promote healthy competition, togetherness and hostel spirit between the hostels.
Last night’s action was received with great excitement, with learners seeing it as the start of something special. The smiles, laughter and enthusiasm were a clear sign that this tradition is quickly becoming a favourite among the hostel learners.
Such initiatives contribute to the unique culture and strong bonds that are formed within and between our hostels. Huis Cherié and Boomhuis have shown that traditions not only come from the past, but are also created together, one flag at a time.
We look forward to seeing how this tradition grows and what creative turns it will take in the future.
