In true Hoërskool Ben Viljoen tradition, the Grade 12 learners had the privilege of bringing their school careers to a close in a special and symbolic way by ringing the bell for the very last time on Monday, 12 October 2026.
When a new Grade 8 learner walks through the gates of Hoërskool Ben Viljoen, they are welcomed into the Daller family through a special bell-ringing ceremony. This symbolises the beginning of a new chapter in which every learner has the opportunity to grow, create memories and become part of a community where they can feel at home. Four years later, at the end of their Grade 12 year, the learners return to this tradition to ring the bell one final time and symbolically bid farewell to their school days.
The morning was filled with emotion, nostalgia and Daller pride. In the school hall, memories of the past five years, treasured friendships and shared experiences came flooding back.
Tears were shed as learners reflected on the beautiful moments they had shared and looked ahead with excitement to the unknown journey awaiting them. It was far more than simply saying goodbye to their school days – it was also a celebration of the growth, development and achievements of the matric class of 2026.
Following the ceremony, the learners made their way to the Memorial Garden, where the official bell-ringing ceremony continued. Here, Die Ben Klok once again took centre stage in one of Hoërskool Ben Viljoen’s most treasured traditions. The bell, which holds a place of honour in the Memorial Garden, represents the school’s rich history, values and traditions, passed down from one generation to the next.
As the bell rang on this memorable morning, its clear sound marked the end of the matric learners’ school careers. At the same time, however, it heralded the beginning of a new phase of life – one filled with new opportunities, challenges and dreams waiting to be realised.
For the matric class of 2026, this final ringing of the bell will always remain a special reminder of the place where their journey as Dallers began, the people who shaped their paths and the traditions that will forever connect them to Hoërskool Ben Viljoen.
The bell has rung for the final time, but the Daller heart will continue to beat forever. May every matric learner embrace the future with confidence and carry our school’s name with pride wherever life takes them. Once a Daller, always a Daller!
