Over the past weekend, our sevens rugby teams participated in the Ysterberg Sevens Tournament, hosted by Hoërskool Frikkie Meyer in Thabazimbi.
We are incredibly proud of our u/15 and u/17 teams, both of whom achieved overall second-place finishes at the tournament!
Our u/15 sevens rugby team delivered high-quality performances throughout the Ysterberg Sevens Tournament. The team defeated Hoërskool Piet Potgieter 19–10, lost 21–33 to Hoërskool Ellisras, and then fought back strongly with victories of 70–07 against Hoërskool Hans Strijdom 2 and 26–19 against Hoërskool Pietersburg. In the Cup Final, the Dallers and Hoërskool Ellisras played to an exciting 24–24 draw. According to the tournament rule that, in the event of a draw, the team that scored the first try is declared the winner, our u/15s finished in second place. Nevertheless, we are incredibly proud of the team’s determination, character and outstanding performance!
Our u/17 sevens team consistently delivered excellent rugby and showed great determination on their way to the final. They defeated Hoërskool Pietersburg 2 by 33–05, followed by a 31–12 victory over HTS Tom Naudé. They then defeated Hoërskool Piet Potgieter 89–00, a remarkable highlight of the day. The Dallers completed the match in just 7 minutes per half with this record score – an average of 6.35 points per minute! In the semi-final, they secured a hard-fought 19–17 victory over Hoërskool Lichtenburg, before unfortunately going down 17–19 to Hoërskool Pietersburg 1 in the final.
Our u/17’s finish their season with an impressive record of 15 victories from 17 matches – an achievement every player and coach can rightly be proud of.
