11 September 2026 will forever be remembered as a special day in the history of Hoërskool Ben Viljoen. With great pride and gratitude, our brand-new Astro hockey field was officially inaugurated – a dream that, through the collaboration, support and belief of many people, has finally become a reality.
The inauguration was celebrated in the presence of numerous community members, donors, sponsors, special guests, staff, learners and hockey enthusiasts. The wonderful turnout once again demonstrated the important role Hoërskool Ben Viljoen plays in the Groblersdal community, and how many people believe in the Daller family's dreams and future.
The event officially began with a welcome by our Governing Body Chairman, Mr Louis Lourens, who expressed his appreciation to every individual and organisation who contributed to this special project.
Rev Julian Olivier of the Dutch Reformed Church Groblersdal conducted the ceremony, dedicating the new facility and everyone who will use it to the Lord. It was a fitting moment of gratitude and recognition of the greater significance of this project.
The symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted by Mr John Smith and Ms Daniel Schoeman, officially opening the Astro field. This moment marked the end of a long journey of planning, hard work and support – and, at the same time, the beginning of a new chapter for Daller hockey.
Following the official inauguration, the focus shifted to the sport for which the field was built. Our hockey teams officially opened the new Astro field with exciting matches that filled the occasion with energy and Daller spirit. For our players and coaches, it was a historic moment to finally play on a modern facility created specifically for the development of hockey at Hoërskool Ben Viljoen.
The evening concluded in a festive atmosphere, with our donors and special guests enjoying a special dinner together and celebrating the success of the project. It was an opportunity not only to celebrate the new Astro field, but also the people behind the dream – those who gave their time, resources, expertise and support to make this facility possible.
The new Astro field is so much more than just a sports facility. It is an investment in our learners, in sports development and in the future of Hoërskool Ben Viljoen. It creates new opportunities for our hockey players to develop their skills, reach their potential and proudly wear the Daller emblem.
To every sponsor, donor, parent, community member, staff member, coach and supporter who formed part of this journey: THANK YOU! Without you, this dream would not have become a reality.
Our Astro field now stands as a monument to what is possible when a community comes together with one goal in mind.
