On Friday, 24 April 2026, Hoërskool Ben Viljoen's boys' hockey, golf, netball and chess teams participated in the NWU Schools Sports Series Final in Potchefstroom. This prestigious series brought together some of the best school teams and, despite challenging weather conditions, the Dallers made their mark.
At the Goldfields West Private Golf Club in Carletonville, the A-golf team faced difficult, rainy conditions. Demonstrating excellent perseverance, they overcame the challenge and proudly secured an overall third place.
On the netball court, only two of Hoërskool Ben Viljoen's teams were able to complete their matches on Friday before the day was called off due to rain. Despite this, the school achieved an overall fourth place in the netball category. The final standings were as follows: First team – ninth place, Second team – thirteenth place, u/16 – ninth place, u/15 – third place and u/14 – third place.
On the hockey field, the senior boys’ hockey team won their first match convincingly against Wolmaransstad in a quick 8-second knockout format. However, they then fell to Vryburg, also in 8-seconds, and unfortunately suffered further defeats against Volksrust and Leeuwenhof before the rest of the matches were abandoned due to rain. The junior boys’ hockey teams started strongly by beating Leeuwenhof 2–0 in 8-seconds, but then narrowly lost to Ferrum 1–2. A further 0–1 defeat to Sarel Cilliers followed before the day’s play was abandoned.
The chess team also showed their mettle and achieved eighth place out of fourteen teams. A special mention goes to Jadin Klopper, who emerged as the board winner – an excellent individual achievement.
On Saturday, 25 April 2026, the focus shifted to the rugby and girls’ hockey teams, where the Dallers’ spirit and talent really shone. Only the four final rugby matches for first and second places took place, and it was here that the u/14 team showed their mettle. They convincingly beat Hoërskool Alberton and were crowned the winners of the u/14 division. Overall, Hoërskool Ben Viljoen’s rugby teams achieved an impressive third place.
The girls’ hockey teams ended the weekend on a high note by winning an overall first place. Both the first team and the u/15 team won their respective finals against Leeuwenhof Academy. The u/16 team achieved fifth place, while the u/14 team took an excellent second place.
This weekend’s achievements are a testament to hard work, perseverance and true Daller spirit.
