Freshwater Bank Angling is more than just water, hooks and bait. It is a sport where you test your patience, hone your skills and sometimes surprise yourself with what you achieve. It is precisely this spirit of perseverance and sportsmanship that was clearly visible during the first league meeting of the 2026 Limpopo Schools Freshwater Bank Angling.
This first competition took place on 15 March 2026 at the Nile Biodiversity Dam in Mokopane, and this year we have strong representation with two u/19 high school teams, as well as, for the first time in the school’s history, a ladies' fishing team – an important milestone for the Dallers!
The Ben Vissers had an excellent start to the season and finished overall second during the first league meeting.
Individually, the team also did well. Marthinus Dreyer achieved an overall second place, while James Coetzee finished in fifth place. Liam Hancke took twelfth place, and Arno du Plessis finished the day in twentieth place.
In the heaviest bag category, Marthinus Dreyer made his mark with a second place, while James Coetzee took third place. Liam Hancke also boasts the heaviest carp, weighing a whopping 6.1kg.
The Bennies team finished the competition in seventh place overall.
Individual results include Juhandrich Grundling, who finished 22nd, followed by Hendri Bouwer in 27th place. Cobus de Bruin took 30th place, and Louis van Schalkwyk finished 34th.
The new Ladies Angling Team, known as the Dallers, made an impressive debut by finishing fourth overall.
The day, however, belonged to Jenna Berry. She took overall first place and caught the heaviest bag for the day. To crown her excellent performance, she was also named the Victrix Ludorum of the competition.
With such promising results, it is clear that the Daller anglers are approaching the 2026 season with great confidence. We look forward to the next league event where these talented anglers will once again test their skills.
