This past weekend, Hoërskool Ben Viljoen’s sports teams travelled to Standerton, where they faced Hoërskool Standerton in the second round of the NWU Schools Sports Series. It was an exciting day full of sporting action in which rugby, netball and hockey players gave their best and showed excellent spirit and teamwork.
Rugby
The younger teams put in particularly strong performances. The u/14A team achieved an impressive 50–11 victory, while the u/14B team also did well with a 31–12 victory. The u/16A team also secured a solid 40–21 victory.
The u/15A team, however, had to bow the knee with 8–17, and the u/16B team narrowly lost by 17–19 in a thrilling match. In the senior matches, Standerton prevailed, with the 3rd team losing 12–51, the 2nd team 7–40, and the 1st team 12–25.
Netball
The netball teams also showed good fighting spirit. The u/14A team achieved a narrow 14–12 victory, while the u/15A team prevailed 27–16. Strong performances also came from the u/16A team, who won 24–14, and the u/16B team, who won 17–7.
The u/14B team lost 12–18, and the u/15B team 7–15. The u/14C team played a friendly match and won 13–4. The 2nd team lost 6–20, while the 1st team fought hard and drew 22–22.
Hockey
The hockey teams had an excellent day, winning almost all of their matches. The u/14 and u/15 teams both won 4–0, while the u/16 team achieved a convincing 6–0 victory. The 2nd team won 4–1, and the 1st girls team recorded an impressive 7–0 victory. The 1st boys team also played strongly, winning 3–1.
The day was a great success with many excellent performances by Ben Viljoen’s sports teams. The players showed pride, determination and good sportsmanship, and the school can be proud of their achievements.
