“Where she went, words became flowers - because in her hands Afrikaans always came to life.”
Here, at the end of the 2025 school year, we say goodbye to Ms Talita Cupido, one of our dedicated Afrikaans teachers whose name has become synonymous with loyalty, hard work and a deep love for her language.
Ms Cupido wove her love for Afrikaans and her passion for people like golden threads through her work. In the classroom, she not only taught the language, but also brought its beauty to life - through every poem, every essay and every conversation. She showed learners that Afrikaans is not just a subject, but an identity, a story and a way of understanding the world.
She was the head of our ATKV Youth Branch, where she transformed culture into action. Here, culture was not just a thing of the heart, but something that lived. Under her leadership, the youth branch has put action into words year after year with projects that have made a difference in the community. The youth branch - a group of volunteering learners who are passionate about culture, language and community service - learned through her leadership that true culture grows when you give back, collaborate and build on something bigger than yourself.
Ms Cupido worked with an unwavering spirit and an open heart. She was always willing to step in where help was needed - whether it was organising a project, encouraging a learner or supporting a cultural event, she did it with dedication, a smile and style.
With sincere appreciation, we say thank you, Ms Cupido, for the colour, the character and the steadfastness that you brought to Ben Viljoen. May the next chapter in your life be full of new stories!
