The residents of Huis Cherié Girls’ Hostel recently enjoyed an exciting and flavour-filled “Around the World” function on 21 May, where different countries and cultures were represented through unique gourmet burgers. The evening was filled with creativity, teamwork, and delicious flavours from across the globe.
The hostel provided the basic burger ingredients - chicken patties, buns, lettuce, and tomato. The rest of the ingredients and special additions were supplied by the hostel residents themselves, giving each group the opportunity to creatively showcase the unique tastes and styles of their chosen countries.
The girls truly embraced their themes with impressive attention to detail. Mexico was represented with spicy hot sauce, while Texas, USA, brought bold flavour with BBQ sauce. The Netherlands added a touch of richness with creamy Gouda cheese on their burgers.
The Grade 9 group was crowned the winners with their outstanding Japan-themed presentation. They went the extra mile by toasting their buns with sesame seeds and using authentic Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise on their burgers. As an added treat, they also served Matcha-flavoured cupcakes for dessert, which greatly impressed the judges.
Even the on-duty staff enthusiastically participated by choosing Greece as their theme. Their burgers were topped with olives and delicious tzatziki, adding an authentic Mediterranean flavour to the evening.
The “Around the World” function was not only a fun social event, but also a celebration of culture, creativity, and togetherness. Huis Cherié once again proved that hostel life is filled with memorable experiences and special moments that will be remembered for years to come.
