Hoërskool Ben Viljoen's u/14 and u/15 netball teams participated in the Mpumalanga Netball Championships from 15 to 16 June 2026, where the Dallers faced some of Mpumalanga's strongest schools. Both teams showed excellent fighting spirit and gained valuable experience against high-quality opposition.
U/15 team secures ninth place
The u/15 team started the tournament strongly with a 14–9 win over Madzuma. They then built on their momentum with a 10–4 win against Idlangemabala. In their third match, the team faced Hoërskool Secunda and despite a valiant effort, lost 9–17. The Dallers then also lost to Hoërskool Lydenburg with a score of 5–12.
However, the team showed their character by fighting back in the semi-finals of the placement matches and defeating Hoërskool Piet Retief 9–5. In the match for eighth and ninth place, Ben Viljoen faced Hoërskool Rob Ferreira. After a hard-fought battle, they unfortunately had to bow the knee 11–6, which meant that the team finished the championship in ninth place.
U/14 team finishes eighth
The u/14 team also participated in the championship with great enthusiasm. They finished their group phase with a 9–7 victory over Hoërskool Piet Retief after earlier losing to Hoërskool Nelspruit 6–18.
In the play-offs, the team faced strong opposition. They lost to Hoërskool Middelburg 2–18 in the quarter-finals and then lost to Hoërskool Ermelo 4–15 in the semi-finals of the placement matches.
In their last match of the tournament, the Dallers played Hoërskool Rob Ferreira. Despite a valiant effort, they lost 7–8 and finished the championship in eighth place.
Although the final results were not always in their favour, both teams carried the name of Hoërskool Ben Viljoen with pride. The players consistently showed determination, sportsmanship and teamwork against some of the best netball schools in Mpumalanga.
Congratulations to all the players and coaches on their participation and achievements. The experience gained during these championships will undoubtedly contribute to further growth and success on the netball court.
